Santorini is one of Greece's most popular tourist destinations. Thousands of people flock to its shores yearly to enjoy the stunning views, delicious food, and warm Mediterranean climate. But many visitors don't know that Santorini has a long and rich history that stretches back over 3,000 years and is on the list as a possibility for the Lost City of Atlantis.
Fira is the capital of Santorini and the perfect place to start your exploration of the island. Located atop cliffs with sweeping views of the caldera, Fira is a picturesque town with winding streets and white-washed buildings. Although it can be crowded with tourists during peak season, there are plenty of things to do in Fira to keep you busy.
For history buffs, the Archaeological Museum is one of Fira's most popular tourist attractions. Another great option is the Museum of Prehistoric Thera.
For those of you who want to get in a bit of exercise, Atkiki Gorge is one of Fira's most popular hiking trails. The trailhead is located just outside town and follows a moderate path through enchanting scenery to the village of Imerovigli. Along the way, you'll pass by Orthodox churches, vineyards, and traditional cave houses carved into the cliffside. The hike takes about 2 hours round trip and is suitable for all fitness levels.

Another great stop on the island of Santorini is Oia, a beautiful village located on the northwestern tip of Santorini. Oia is known for its stunning sunsets, fantastic Caldera views, and traditional architecture. The iconic blue roofs in Oia are some of the most memorable photos of Santorini.
Oia is a great place to watch the sunset as the sun sets over the Aegean Sea. There are many restaurants and cafes in Oia with outdoor seating to enjoy the view. If you want to avoid the crowds, there are also several lookout points where you can get a panoramic view of the sunset without having to fight for a spot.
Santorini may be small, but there's no shortage of things to do. From exploring museums and hiking trails to enjoying stunning views of the caldera, you're sure to find plenty to keep you busy during your stay on this idyllic Greek island.
